Background
Korean onshore funds are Korean securities investment trusts, which are a unit trust style fund set up
under Korean regulations. There are three parties: the manager, the trustee, and the investors (beneficiaries).
The manager plays a broad role and is responsible for investment selection as well as administrative matters such as calculation
of net asset value and issue and redemption of units, although some activities may be assigned to third parties such as sales
through distributors. The trustee, which is one of Korea's major commercial banks or the Seoul branch of a foreign bank,
is chiefly responsible for the custody of the assets of the trust.
Type of Funds
KIS offers a wide range of funds for investors, in particular those of our affiliated asset management companies,
Korea Investment Management Co. Ltd. (KIM) and Korea Value Asset Management Co. Ltd. (KVAM), but we also distribute funds of other asset managers
in Korea. The funds offered to our investors include equity funds (for Korean and overseas equity markets), bond funds (government and corporate
bond funds), hybrid funds (fund that contain a mixture of equities and bonds in order to limit volatility in performance), money market funds,
derivatives funds, real estate funds, etc.
Funds are often divided into classes. Each class is managed in exactly the same way, but the fees for each class are different. For example,
Class A has an initial charge, while Class C has no initial charge but higher ongoing fee rates. The difference in fees may lead to a difference
in performance between classes of the same fund.
Overseas investors (non-residents of Korea) may invest in almost all of the range of domestic funds that we offer to Korean resident investors,
as long as such investment is not prohibited in the jurisdiction in which the investor is resident. For further information on our funds,
